Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 22) CommercialCorner Spotlight “Our world is becoming more globalized every day” T he essence of MUSE is centered around volunteerism. This volunteer spirit stems from the goal of improving health care as a whole by working together and giving of resources to achieve the goal. As a group comprised of people who share this common characteristic, it’s not surprising that many are also involved in additional activities that better the lives of others. One such example is Heather Cromer, Marketing Coordinator at Access. Heather Cromer, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, participates in numerous volunteer-driven endeavors, but two are of particular importance. The first is a community-based summer event entitled Sulphur Springs Work Camp. It's a volunteer program where teens work in teams with adults to paint houses, perform yard work and complete light construction for others in the community (elderly, disabled, single parents). Cromer is a member of the planning committee for this project and leads a work crew during the summer camp. Cromer is passionate about being a part of an event that makes a difference in her community. She also believes it is important to teach students how to be worldchangers starting in their own communities. “It's appealing to me because it is so encouraging when I can see a tangible difference I am making where I live,” Cromer says. “I love the true contentment I get from helping someone out with no strings attached. ‘No way it's free’ is one of the most common comments we get from homeowners who are chosen for this event. They can't believe they are getting help for free,” she explains. Another aspect that Cromer appreciates about participating in this camp is watching teenagers enjoy working hard and serving others. “They actually see that it is fun and meaningful,” she says. Last year more than 150 students and adults split into work crews and painted 12 houses and fixed up the yards. This summer they are planning to work on 15 houses. The second volunteer program Cromer participates in is Sunshine International Leadership Camp, an annual cross-cultural camp that Heather Cromer is kneeling in the front row and wearing a black hat. invites high school and college students from all over China to participate with students from the United States and 21 SPRING 2009 MUSE INTERNATIONAL Table of Contents Feed for the Digital Edition of Muse Matters - Spring 2009 Muse Matters - Spring 2009 Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 1) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 2) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 3) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 4) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 5) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 6) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 7) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 8) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 9) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 10) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 11) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 12) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 13) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 14) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 15) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 16) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 17) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 18) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 19) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 20) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 21) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 22) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 23) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 24) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 25) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 26) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 27) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 28) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 29) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 30) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 31) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 32) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 33) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 34) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 35) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 36) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 37) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 38) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 39) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 40) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 41) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 42) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 43) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 44) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 45) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 46) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 47) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 48) http://www.nxtbookMEDIA.com
