Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 18) From Magic to The Transition at Beverly Hospital Beverly Hospital, located in Montebello, California is a 224-bed acute care, not-for-profit hospital that is proud of the care and comfort it provides to its patients. Its expertise lies with providing services driven by the health needs of the community. Since 1949, it has provided quality medical care to the residents of Montebello, Pico Rivera, Monterey Park, El Monte, Whittier, East Los Angeles and surrounding communities in California. FOCUS The hospital has grown to keep pace with the changing needs of patients and the rapidly advancing technology of health care. A team of health care professionals supports the medical staff of over 300 physicians, sophisticated diagnostic and treatment services and spacious patient care units. Having a strong presence in the community has been critical to success for 60 years. The hospital has changed with its community not only in the way it delivers basic healthcare, but also by reaching beyond the walls of the hospital and working with the community members in meeting their needs. Beverly Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Beverly Hospital is currently undergoing the conversion from MEDITECH’s Magic platform to the new FOCUS 6.0 platform. Jim Morrow, CIO, spoke with MUSE Matters regarding specifics of the experience. MUSE Matters (mm): What platform did Beverly Hospital have before deciding to migrate to MEDITECH 6.0? 5.5 when we started the conversion to 6.0 - and we still are. We are planning to go LIVE with 6.0 on October 1, 2009. Jim Morrow: Beverly was on Magic mm: What factors did you take into considmorrow: Beverly had been on Magic for about 13 years and the system needed a major overhaul. So, the decision basically hinged upon “Do we fix the LIVE system” or “Do we implement a new system?” It is very hard to do a major rework of a current LIVE system. It was our belief that the effort needed to position the Magic system for the future was at least as great as the effort needed to implement a new version. MEDITECH was never the question. The question was “What flavor of MEDITECH would we go with?” When Beverly was first trying to decide, 6.0 was not an option. Then, in June of 2007, MEDITECH announced that there was this 6.0 version. After examining the fundamental design philosophy of 6.0, we decided that the future had arrived. eration when making this decision to migrate? mm: How did the migration fit into the hospital’s plan? 17 SPRING 2009 MUSE INTERNATIONAL Table of Contents Feed for the Digital Edition of Muse Matters - Spring 2009 Muse Matters - Spring 2009 Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 1) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 2) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 3) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 4) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 5) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 6) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 7) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 8) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 9) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 10) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 11) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 12) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 13) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 14) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 15) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 16) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 17) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 18) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 19) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 20) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 21) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 22) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 23) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 24) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 25) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 26) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 27) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 28) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 29) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 30) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 31) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 32) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 33) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 34) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 35) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 36) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 37) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 38) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 39) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 40) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 41) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 42) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 43) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 44) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 45) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 46) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 47) Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 48) http://www.nxtbookMEDIA.com
