Muse Matters - Spring 2009 - (Page 11) MEET THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEET THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Have you ever wondered who works behind the scenes, making the decisions to ensure MUSE continues to be the professional, valuable organization it has become? The MUSE governing body consists of a Board of Directors, a Chairperson , a Secretary and a Treasurer. These positions are determined by periodic voting by the MUSE membership (except the Chairperson position) and are appointed for specific terms. MUSE Matters is publishing a series during the next two editions, so you can ‘Meet the Board.’ This version features David Zelward (outgoing Chairperson), Terry Mouland (Director) and Adnan Hamid (Director). The next edition will feature the incoming Chairperson, Martha Sullivan, as well as Vicki Cooke (Director) and other Board Members. Meet David Zelward, MUSE International Chair I was born and raised in Saint John, NB - a port city located on the Bay of Fundy, home to the world famous Reversing Falls. With a change of more than 30 feet, Saint John has some of the highest tides in the world. The city is home to a number of notable world's firsts, but this one should sound a familiar note to many people: the world's first foghorn was invented here by Robert Foulis. I currently live in a rural setting, Kingston Peninsula, about 30 minutes west of the city. Primary access to the peninsula is via cable ferry in five different locations. These ferries are considered quaint, attractive, and part of the local charm by some - and just the opposite by many others. It makes for some interesting local politics and is often a hot potato for the elected members of parliament. I am, and have been, the MEDITECH systems administrator for the past 10 years. However, my career didn't start in the technology sector; it began in the purchasing field. I was a purchasing manager in a local hospital for a number of years before becoming the Director of Materials Management. Over a period of time that evolved into a director of what can best be described as hotel services in a hospital. The computer angle happened because I bought a home computer when they first came out in the 1980s and began reading a DOS manual and then BASIC programming book.
